Approximately 1 in 10 couples have difficulty getting pregnant. Humans as a species have a low reproductive capacity and, in normal situations, the chances of getting pregnant are approximately 20% per month.
Infertility may be caused by a number of different factors, in either the male or female reproductive systems, with age being the most common one. Pregnancy rates decrease as maternal age increases while the risk of miscarriage also increases. Sterility can be primary, when a pregnancy there has never been achieved, or secondary, when at least one prior pregnancy has been achieved.
That is why, at Ginemed, from the very first consultation, we make sure we get to know you, understand you and find the ideal treatment to help you fulfil your dream. We also recommend that you see a gynaecologist if you are over 35 years of age and have been trying to conceive for more than 6 months, or after 12 months if you are under 35.
The chances of getting pregnant with assisted reproduction treatment depend on different factors.
The result we obtain will depend to a large extent on the causes of infertility and the treatment we use, as each case is unique and each treatment is unique. Maternal age is one of the most important factors, as fertility decreases as the years go by and it is highly unlikely to achieve a pregnancy after the age of 42 with a woman's own eggs (<10% chance). At Ginemed, our success rates exceed the national and international average and are externally audited.
In Spain there is no legal age limit for assisted reproduction treatment. Normally, the maximum age is set at 50, but it depends on the physical and health condition of the woman and the possible risks that may affect the health of the baby, among others.
